About
The Alexander Technique is a unique system of health re-education. It works gently and gradually to prevent and alleviate a wide range of conditions that may arise from excess muscular tension and poor coordination. These include chronic back pain, neck and shoulder tension, stress, RSI, poor posture or mobility, voice and breathing disorders, headaches, high blood pressure, digestive troubles and poor circulation. It is not a therapy or a treatment, but a co-operative process.
The teacher uses gentle touch and verbal instructions to make you more aware of how you move and carry out activities. You learn how to change habits of movement and posture that may be contributing to stiffness and discomfort; and to stop ‘overdoing’ in reaction to the pressures of modern life. As time goes on, over-tight muscles gradually release and muscles which have been underused begin to strengthen up again; movement becomes freer and lighter.
